How to Rescue All Missing Children in 99 Nights

Four children, four campfire gates, four different route problems. This page gives you the order and the logic; each child then has their own page with the full walkthrough.

Short answer

There are four missing children. Rescue them in campfire order: Dino Kid (Level 2–3)Squid Kid (Level 3–4) Kraken Kid (Level 4–5)Koala Kid (Level 6). Their exact positions change every run, so search for the structure type — a cage, a cave entrance, a shoreline camp or a high platform — not for a fixed coordinate.

  • Dino Kid — outer forest ruins cage, needs the Red Key.
  • Squid Kid — deep-forest cave entrance, clear the guards.
  • Kraken Kid — water edge or shallow swamp, clear the shoreline.
  • Koala Kid — advanced biome depths, high platform or biome edge.

Follow the campfire

Rescue order

  1. 1Push the campfire first. Every rescue is gated by a level, so the fire is the real objective.
  2. 2Rescue Dino Kid once Level 2–3 is reached and you hold the Red Key.
  3. 3Rescue Squid Kid from the cave entrance once Level 3–4 is stable.
  4. 4Rescue Kraken Kid from the shoreline at Level 4–5.
  5. 5Rescue Koala Kid last, at Level 6, when the camp can survive without you.

Why order matters

Rescued children take camp jobs that feed the camp — firewood, fishing, defence and gathering. Each rescue therefore makes the next one cheaper. Doing them out of order costs you that compounding.

Why we publish no map pins

Route logic, not coordinates

A new run generates a new map, so any page promising fixed coordinates is wrong. What stays stable is the structure type attached to each child. Learn the four shapes and you can find them in any run:

  • A cage in the outer forest ruins — Dino Kid. Needs the Red Key.
  • A deep-forest cave entrance — Squid Kid. Needs the guards cleared.
  • The water edge or shallow swamp — Kraken Kid. Needs the shoreline cleared.
  • An elevated platform or advanced biome edge — Koala Kid. Needs a deep push.

Build a Map first

The map reveals through exploration. Crafting a Map at Crafting Bench 1 for 3 Wood means each step clears fog permanently, which turns searching from guesswork into a systematic sweep.

Kids Have Jobs

What rescue gives you

The Kids Have Jobs content gives each rescued child a camp job, which is why the first rescue is worth far more than it looks.

ChildCamp jobWhy it matters
Dino KidPatrols the camp perimeter and slows down how fast hostile spawns break your fences and defences.Slows structure damage, which compounds after night 50.
Squid KidCollects firewood and loose branches around the camp, which feeds your campfire uptime.Feeds the campfire, which is the progression gate.
Kraken KidHelps the camp fish and gather aquatic resources automatically.Free food income with no active farming time.
Koala KidGathers berries, herbs and crops for the camp at an advanced rate.Accelerates herb and crop gathering for late crafting.

What wastes runs

Common mistakes

  • Travelling to a rescue without meeting the campfire requirement.
  • Arriving at the cage without the Red Key.
  • Starting the clear late in the day, so the escort happens at night.
  • Attempting Koala Kid before the camp can survive several nights alone.
  • Looking for a fixed coordinate instead of a structure type.

What to do next

  • Confirm your campfire meets the next requirement before travelling.
  • Open the individual child page for the full walkthrough.

Frequently asked questions

How many missing children are there in 99 Nights in the Forest?
Four: Dino Kid, Kraken Kid, Squid Kid and Koala Kid. Each one is tied to a campfire level and a different gate condition, so the practical order is Dino Kid → Squid Kid → Kraken Kid → Koala Kid.
Are the missing children in the same place every run?
No. A new run generates a new map, so fixed coordinates do not exist. What stays consistent is the structure you are looking for — a cage, a cave entrance, a shoreline camp or an elevated platform — and the campfire level required.
What is the fastest way to rescue all four kids?
Treat the campfire as the real progression gate. Every level you add removes one blocker, so funnel wood, scrap and fuel into campfire levels first, then run the rescues in campfire-order instead of chasing whichever child you stumble into.
Do the rescued kids do anything?
Yes. After the "Kids Have Jobs" content, each child takes a camp job: Dino Kid reinforces defences, Squid Kid collects firewood, Kraken Kid helps with fishing, and Koala Kid gathers berries, herbs and crops.
